Helon Francis, the Trinidad 2018 calypso monarch, and Rondell Donawa who placed third in the competition for the coveted crown, will be the headliners at the Calypsoca Extravaganza to be held at the St.Peter and Paul Banquet Hall in Scarborough on Sunday July 29.
Among the leading local artistes who will be appearing at the show are Connector, the reigning calypso monarch of Toronto, and Macomere Fifi, six-time calypso monarch.
For Francis and Donowa, it will be their first performance in Canada.
In telephone interviews from Trinidad, both of the Trinidadian artistes said they were looking forward to their visit to Canada.
Francis,24, is one of the youngest artistes to win the Trinidad calypso monarch competition in which he was vying against six former monarchs, including Chalkdust (Hollis Liverpool) who won the crown nine times.
Donawa, a young lawyer, started singing calypso at the age of four. He plays several musical instruments and like Francis, he has won many local calypso competitions.
The Calypsoca Extravaganza is organized by OCPA ( the Organization of Calypso Performing Artistes).
