Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN) has partnered with Toronto Urban Growers to celebrate food grown in Toronto along with the people who grow it!
From September 11-19, 2021, Urban Agriculture Week festivities will include garden tours, workshops, and harvest parties across the city. Find one in your neighbourhood at https://uaweekto.wordpress.com/.
TCBN’s flagship mentorship program NexGen Builders got in on the action too this year by building planter boxes for this year’s Veggie Derby festivities. NexGen Builders are learning that a sustainable environment is also an equitable environment. The planter boxes will become part of a Community Garden where elders, mentors and the NexGen can come together at the neighborhood level and engage in climate solutions.
Did you grow something amazing in your garden this year? Enter your best zucchini, pollinator garden or funniest vegetable in the Best in GrowTO urban-style agriculture competition https://uaweekto.wordpress.com/best-in-growto-contest-2021/. You can also vote for your favourites for People’s Choice Awards!
New for 2021! The Veggie Derby is a race to see how much fresh produce Toronto can grow to donate to food programs. The festivities are being kicked off for this year’s Veggie Derby at Feed Scarborough’s Scarborough Junction Community Farms on Saturday, September 11 at 3595 St. Clair Ave. E. at 11:00 am. If you’re growing food, you can join the race at https://uaweekto.wordpress.com/veggie-derby/
