FedDev Ontario investment supports return and expansion of largest Caribbean festival in North America

Tourism in Toronto is essential to the vitality of the city’s local businesses and communities, bringing millions of visitors to the region each year. Cultural events, such as the Toronto Caribbean Carnival – one of the largest street festivals in Canada − play an important role in bringing people together to celebrate the cultures that reflect our country’s diversity.
Today, at the official launch of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced an investment of $1 million for the operators of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, the Festival Management Committee, to modernize the event, expand offerings and enhance visitor experience. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Helena Jaczek, Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario).
Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance said “This $1-million FedDev Ontario investment will allow the Festival Management Committee to position the Toronto Caribbean Carnival for success for years to come. The Government of Canada is committed to supporting cultural events, like the Toronto Caribbean Carnival, by supporting businesses and organizations as they find new and innovative ways to attract visitors and drive local economic growth.”
