St Lucia’s Julien Alfred continues to shine bright at the 100 metres

Julien Alfred, a Saint Lucian athlete who recently turned professional, continues to impress in the 100 meters. She achieved a remarkable feat in Budapest, Hungary, stunning the crowd with a winning time of 10.89 seconds. This victory was particularly significant as it marked the first loss for the American sprinter Shak’Carri Richardson and Tamari Davis. Richardson had been unbeaten in all her races in 2023. The timing of this triumph was also noteworthy, as it coincided with Saint Lucia’s second day of carnival celebrations, giving the country even more cause for joyous celebration.
Julien Alfred’s achievements extend beyond this recent victory. In 2017, she claimed gold in the 100 meters at the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas. The following year, she secured a silver medal at the Youth Olympic Games. In 2022, Alfred added another gold medal to her collection at the Caribbean Games, competing in the under-23 event in Basseterre, France. She also earned a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Moreover, Alfred’s exceptional performance at the Central American Caribbean Games (CACG) in El Salvador earned her a gold medal.
Adding to her impressive accolades, Julien Alfred currently holds the title of NCAA Division 1 Women’s Track and Field National Athlete of the Year for 2023. Her continued success and outstanding performances make her a notable figure in the world of track and field, further solidifying her status as a rising star in the sport.
