TORONTO – A contingent of nearly 50 nationally recognized artists, arts administrators and their supporters will be hosting a special showcase prior to heading to Trinidad and Tobago for the 14th edition of CARIFESTA. The contingent is being managed by the Toronto-based, Canadian-Caribbean Arts Network (C-CAN).
The C-CAN CARIFESTA Preview and Send-Off Fundraiser is taking place at Tropicana Community Services located at 1385 Huntingwood Drive in Scarborough, Ontario. It will be on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
“The show is our way of thanking our sponsors and sharing a taste of what we will be presenting
in Trinidad and Tobago,” said Rhoma Spencer, Artistic Director of C-CAN. “We are hoping for
one last boost of support before we head off to represent Canada and bring our take on
Caribbean culture to this truly international festival.”
CARIFESTA is the premium cultural event in the Caribbean and is held every two years. This
year’s festival takes place in Trinidad and Tobago from August 16 to August 25.

Canadian audiences are guaranteed to be entertained at the C-CAN CARIFESTA
Preview and Send-Off Fundraiser. Performers include: Children and Youth Dance Theatre of Toronto; Kalabash; Roots and Branches Dance; KasheDance; Rhoma Spencer; Daniel Ellis.
“We are pleased that Canada is part of a festival that has historically been created and
designed for countries of the wider Caribbean region,” said Michael G-A Lashley, Chef de
Mission/Project Manager. “Two years ago, we participated at CARIFESTA in Barbados with
great success. This year we have an even bigger group and we are expecting an enhanced
international experience for our Canadian contingent.”
