NEW YORK – The father of Trindad-born rapper Nicki Minaj died on Saturday after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Long Island.

Robert Maraj was walking along a road in Mineola on Long Island at 6:15 p.m. on Friday when he was hit by a car that kept going, Nassau County police said.

Mara,j, 64, was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday.

Minaj (Onika Tanya Maraj), 38, was raised in the New York City borough of Queens. She has not made any public statement about her father’s death.

She previously spoke about her complicated relationship with her father in interviews, revealing that he struggled with drug addiction and was abusive towards her mother, Carole Maraj.
