Victor Shim-Chim passed away last Friday August 23 after a long and brave battle with a terminal cancer. The gifted musician and DJ had been keeping the tempo humming in Toronto for many years since coming from his native Guyana

He was the official DJ for Cajuca Mas Arts in the Park from year one and more recently, we are blessed to have his talented sister, DJ Miss Tempo (Joy), perform for us at our events this year and last.

Victor has an impressive portfolio of musical history in Toronto and Guyana. His most recent band, The Surefire Band performed every year on the truck for the USW Labour Day Parade and for the Pride Parade. The Labour Day parade is just a few days away and we cannot imagine what it will be like without his lively and inspiring chants and great music on the road.

Always known for his ever-present hats, he was the Friday night house DJ at the Queen Victoria Pub with his sister Joy, DJ Miss Tempo, until his illness prevented him from playing.

Cajuca Mas Arts will be sending flowers on behalf of our entire crew and wish Joy and her family our deepest thoughts and condolences. We were all lucky to have had the time we did with Victor and were privileged to experience his incredible talent.

Funeral arrangements for Victor: Visitation: Thursday 29th August 5 to 9pm at Chapel Ridge Funeral Home 8911 Woodbine Ave, Markham. Funeral Service: Friday 30th August from 10am to 11 am at St.Lawrence Marthy Parish 2210 Lawrence Ave E, Scarborough, Ont. Cremation at 12pm St.John’s Norway Crematorium, 256 Kingston Rd Toronto and the Reception will be at 1pm Queen Victoria Pub, 2240 Midland Ave, Scarborough Ont.
