Pan band drumming up support

With their three-peat in 2014 in Toronto, the 100- strong Pan Fantasy steel band is all set to wend their way to New York but they need your help, come Sept. 3, for a victory in Brooklyn, New York.
“We have set our sights on the 2014 New York Panorama competition, said to be the second only to Trinidad Panorama. The competition attracts the best players, arrangers and pan enthusiasts from around the world,” said Wendy Jones, Pan Fantasy leader.
She noted the band has already made a name for itself in New York in placing second in 1992 and 1993. Last year they placed fourth by the closest of margins and were named People’s Choice.
“Today, we need your help. Your sponsorship, assistance in any form or kind will go a far way for our continued success. The cost is great, transportation, hotel accommodation and so on,” Jones said.
The cost is $20, 000, of which they have raised $10,000.
There is also a continued social responsibility of taking the at-risk young people off the streets and getting them gainfully engaged in educational and entertainment pursuits.
Jones said the Kidstart Campaign will close on Tuesday so she is asking for donations by then. She is willing to even drop by and collect your contributions.
Jones said when she told the young people they will not be returning next year the tears flowed.
“So, this is it, let’s make it happen, I’m counting on you!” Jones said.
