A new fund will support research into how to provide better patient care to Scarborough’s diverse population.

The Scarborough Hospital’s (TSH) Department of Family and Community Medicine (DFCM) has established the TSH CARES Fund with a $400,000 donation to The Scarborough Hospital Foundation. The TSH Community Academic Research and Education Support (CARES) Fund will support academic enrichment and scholarly activities, and community based research to study various populations and ethnic diversity.

“There is much potential to the health of our diverse population and this will give physicians a chance to do the research and in the end, provide better patient care,” says Dr. Larry Erlick, Chief of Family Practice and Community Medicine at TSH.  “The creation of the TSH CARES Fund enhances the academic role of TSH’s teaching program.”

The donation comes from the group of physicians who are part of the resident teaching program at TSH.  Most teaching programs have a fund for research and scholarly activities.

The Fund provides another opportunity for supporters to give to The Scarborough Hospital Foundation and to support research that will be used to help people in their own community.
