
The dignitaries came out in their numbers to 1465 Harwood Avenue North where the Schiegel Group located one of its the Schlegel Villages Ajax Campus of Care. Their new Village Campus Care facility will feature 192 new long term care beds. This the first phase of the village was announced by minister of Long-Term Care Rod Phillips, MPP for Ajax at the location last Monday
This will be the second Campus of its kind in Durham for the Schiegel Group which has villages in Whitby and London, Ontario. President and CEO James Schiegel said that he was very happy to be a part of the new Ajax facility. He added that the city and province, along with their other partners, worked diligently in creating this opportunity for the people of Ajax.
The site is a little over five acres, and will bring new beds to an area in Ajax where there has not been much on offer for seniors.
The 192 beds, 320 new beds for Lakeridge next to the hospital, and the 124 new Chartwell beds, plus a 100 upgrades, will bring the total of new beds in Ajax to 636.
Also in attendance were John Henry Regional Chair of Durham Mayor Shaun Collier, Councillors Marilyn Crawford, Rob Tyler Morin. Guyana-born mayor Ashmeed Khan said “we have an aging community and this is great news for our community”

Ground will be broken for the building in the spring. It is expected to be completed in fifteen to twenty months.
