Model Pasha Bleasdell who starred in rapper Nelly’s musical video “Hot in Herre,” died of a brain tumor at hospital in New York on June 4 last. She was 38.
Canadian filmmaker Julien Christian Lutz, known professionally as Director X, announced her death in an Instagram post.
“If you made videos in 2000’s or were around to watch them you know Pasha,” wrote Director X. “We met her doing background work on the set of Donnell Jones ‘Where I Want To Be’ from there we put her in the mix. It was a wild ride from then on. I’ve put her in a million videos and spent just as much time hanging out. She was always genuine and cool.”
In addition to her appearance in the 2002 Nelly hit, Bleasdell also appeared in videos such as 50 Cent’s “ P.I.M.P” and Sean Paul’s “Gimme the Light.”
Bleasdell was born in Brooklyn, New York to Trinidadian parents but grew up in Toronto where she attended school and started her modelling career.
He aunt, Leslie McLetchie, who lives in Toronto, told The Caribbean Camera that Bleasdell “started modelling when she was about 16 or 17 years of age.
“But she was not just about celebrity and fame. She had a heart of gold and would take every opportunity to give back to her community. She did a lot of good work in the Scarborough area with underprivileged children.”
“She also mentored a lot of young black girls who wanted to get into the entertainment industry to do videos and modelling,” said McLetchie.
Her father, David De Matas, described the model as “an excellent dancer.”
A private funeral service for Pasha Bleasdell was held in New York yesterday.
