CaribbeanTales International Film Festival (CTFF) kicks off its Sweet 16 Anniversary with a media launch on Thursday July 8th, 2021 at 7pm EST on CaribbeanTales-TV (CTTV)  to announce this year’s festival programme.

“It is going to be jam-packed with amazing Caribbean and Canadian content,” exclaimed Diana Webley, CTFF Director.

“In fact, 50% of our filmmakers will be Canadian. It’s really all about celebrating ourselves and our stories at home in Canada and because we are virtual again this year, we are able to showcase it to the world.” 

The other 50% of CTFF films comes from Martinique, Trinidad and Tobago, Curaçao, Barbados, Puerto Rico, Netherlands, South Africa, Dominican Republic, France, Aruba, United States and the United Kingdom.

Hosted by Up From The Roots poet Dwayne Morgan, the media launch will feature a sneak peek at award-winning film Akilla’s Escape (Canada, 2020)

followed by a talkback with the film’s critically acclaimed director Charles Officer. As an added bonus, on July 14th at 7pm EST, a special “Behind the Lens” about the film will be hosted by CTV News anchor Andria Case with Charles Officer and star Donisha Prendergast on CT-TV.

The CaribbeanTales Film Festival takes place September 8th- 24th with a programme of films from the African and Caribbean diaspora, talkbacks with actors and directors as well as the popular Big Pitch in partnership with TIFF.

New this year, audiences can watch films on their own schedule through the CTTV Video-On-Demand platform. This innovative subscription-based digital streaming platform provides access to a library of African & Caribbean-heritage films and television programs.

Festival founder, film and television industry pioneer, Frances-Anne Solomon will bring a special greeting for the 16th anniversary and will be joined by CaribbeanTales Media Group (CTMG) board member Denise
