In an exhilarating celebration of Caribbean connectivity, the Martinique Tourism Authority (MTA) hosted a vibrant gate party at Toronto-Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to mark the highly-anticipated launch of the first non-stop flight from Toronto to Martinique. The event, attended by the Martinican Tourism Commissioner, Bénédicte di Géronimo, along with Caribbean delegates, Air Canada representatives, and Canadian press, marked a historic moment for tourism between the two regions.

“This new route isn’t just an air connection; it opens doors to new opportunities, strengthening our commitment to elevate Martinique to the top of must-visit Caribbean tourist destinations,” remarked di Géronimo during the celebration. “As of today, Martinique has officially become more accessible to Canadians than ever with up to 6 weekly flights from Canada. What an amazing journey! I would like here to thank especially Air Canada for their unwavering cooperation and support.”
Announced in April of this year, the new route links Toronto (YYZ) and Martinique’s capital, Fort-de-France, via the Martinique Aimé Césaire International Airport (FDF). The route enhances Air Canada’s existing direct service from Montreal, offering Toronto passengers the convenience of a non-stop, 5-hour flight aboard an Airbus B737 MAX with 169 passengers, including 16 Business Class seats (2X2) and 153 Economy Class seats (3X3), all equipped with complimentary personal inflight entertainment.
Addressing passengers boarding the inaugural flight, Ms. di Géronimo highlighted Martinique’s unique virtues, including its French-Creole cuisine, world-renowned rums, rich heritage, and UNESCO-recognized natural beauty. The “Isle of Flowers” has gained popularity among Canadian travelers due to its diverse experiences and safe environment.
The successful launch of the flight reinforces Martinique’s commitment to the Canadian market. Ms. di Géronimo previously confirmed Canada’s growing importance as a key market, with Canada becoming Martinique’s second-largest source of tourism arrivals. The strengthening partnership between Air Canada and Martinique positions the airline as the leading carrier between Canada and the French Caribbean.
In closing, Ms. di Géronimo expressed her gratitude to Air Canada and the first passengers who seized the opportunity to explore Martinique’s magnificent, welcoming, and authentic island. “Martinique loves you!” she exclaimed, encapsulating the spirit of this momentous occasion.
