
Trinidad-born Martha De Gannes has been appointed regional senior Justice of the Peace for the Central East region in Ontario, effective March 1.
(Central East region includes Barrie. Durham Region, Lindsay, Newmarket and Peterborough,)
She will replace Senior Justice of the Peace Brian Norton.
De Gannes was appointed Justice of the Peace in Newmarket in 2007 and later served as the Local Administrative Justice of the Peace in Oshawa.
She presided for four years in the Region of York until her transfer to court locations in Durham Region where was the first Black female Justice of the Peace.
De Gannes held senior management positions with the Ministry of the Attorney General Criminal Law Division pertaining to domestic violence, bail safety programs, victim services and high risk offenders.
