Cricket Canada last Tuesday, announced that Gus Logie the national team cricket coach has been let go with immediate effect.
Logie, 53 , the former West Indies batsman who played 52 Tests and 158 ODIs between 1981 and 1993 was appointed national coach in the mid 2012 succeeding Michael Dighton, but during his tenure the national team failed to gain a spot in the recent World Twenty/20 Qualifier in the UAE.
In a recent statement from the GEO of Cricket Canada Doug Hannum, “This is obviously a challenging time for the organization but this decision is made with a view to prepare and send the best team to the World Cup Qualifier in January. Unfortunately you cannot change 15 players at once and something had to give, it’s up to the playing group to pick themselves up give a good account of themselves in New Zealand.”
Cricket Canada president Ravin Moorthy thanked Logie for all his hard work and dedication during his time.
Canada is in Group A in the upcoming World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand in January next year, along with the UAE, Scotland, Hong Kong and Nepal. In Group B is the Netherlands, Kenya, Namibia, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.
The two finalists will win places in the World Cup which starts in February 14, 2015
