The Jamaican Canadian Association (JCA) is celebrating Jamaica’s 60th Independence and a part of the celebration is its Annual Flag Raising Ceremony.

On August 6th, 1962, Jamaican lowered the Union Jack and hoisted the Black, Green and Gold flag having acquired self-governance from the British after 307 years of colonial rule.

The JCA is pleased to host a public ceremony in celebration of Jamaica’s Diamond Jubilee of Independence by raising the Jamaican flag at Toronto City Hall on Sunday, July 31 at 12:45 pm. The Jamaican flag being flown at City Hall is a symbol of pride and the ongoing commitment and contributions of Jamaicans in Toronto and Canada.

The past two years have been virtual and it is timely that on such a major milestone we are able to gather in-person to mark the occasion. The public is invited to attend this ceremony where there will be messages from Prime Ministers of both Jamaica and Canada along with various Members of Parliament and Diplomatic representatives from Jamaica.

The flag raising will be followed by the Annual Independence Church Service starting at 3:00pm at the Faith Sanctuary located at 1901 Jane Street, Toronto.

This is a significant milestone for all Jamaicans and those of Jamaican descent and everyone is invited to come and share in this occasion.
