Guyana Jaguars with six outright wins after the seventh round of the inaugural West Indies Cricket Board Professional Cricket League four-day tournament are certainly in control of the title.
Guyana is at the top of the standings with 107 points, followed by Barbados Pride with 82 points and Windward Islands Volcanoes with 80 points.
Narsingh Deonarine is Guyana’s leading runscorer with 435 runs followed by Shivnarine Chanderpaul with 332, Rajendra Chandrika with 324 and Vishaul Singh with 302, the leading batsmen with over 300 runs.
Guyana will host Jamaica Franchise in the eighth round this weekend at Guyana National Stadium while Leeward Islands Hurricanes will play Barbados at Warner Park, Basseterre, St. Kitts, and Trinidad & Tobago Red Force will face Windward Islands at the National Cricket Centre, Couva, Trinidad.
The other two rounds are scheduled to be played March 13-16 and the final round March 20-23.
In other cricket news, Hayley Matthews, 16, won the President’s Award as well as Most Outstanding Cricketer, Emerging Young Female Cricketer and Most Improved Female Cricketer at the Barbados Cricket Association awards presentation last weekend.
Hayley made her ODI debut for the West Indies Women’s team against Australia in November 2014 and her T20I debut against New Zealand in September 2014. She has played in four ODIs and five T20Is for the West Indies.
Most Outstanding Male Player went to Jomel Warrican who plays for Empire Club, the winner of the Elite Division of the BCA league. Warrican, 22, was the best bowler in the Sagicor Cup and the Elite Division.
