Grenadian athlete Anderson Peters is well known throughout the sporting world for his stellar performance in the men’s javelin event in many international competitions. 

Peters is a force to be reckoned with in his sporting field and with so many medals already under his belt, here are 10 things to know about the Grenadian javelin champ. 

• Anderson Peters was born on October 21, 1997, and is from the parish of St David.
• He was first inspired by Jamaican sprinting idol Usain Bolt to become a sprinter but later decided to transition to the javelin throw.
• He is a multiple CARIFTA winner having placed first in the javelin throw at the CARIFTA Games in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
• Peters won gold at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru.
• He received a full scholarship in January 2017 to attend Mississippi State University where he studied for a Business Administration major degree.
• In June 2022, Peters was appointed a Member of the Order of the Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list for his services to sport.
• He is a double World Champion having won gold at the 2019 World Athletic Championships in Doha, Qatar and at the 2022 World Athletic Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
• In May 2022 at the Doha Diamond League, h won gold and broke his national record with a throw of 93.07 metres.
• He made his Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020 where he did not reach the finals of the javelin throw.
• He has won two Commonwealth medals, a bronze in 2018 at Gold Coast, Australia and a silver in 2022 in Birmingham, England.
