Kifayat Mohammed, one of the founders of The Caribbean Camera, died at the Brampton Civic hospital on Saturday.He was 75.

His daughter, Faadia, said he had been ailing for some time with Parkinson disease.

Mohammed who was  the Chief Financial Officer of the Mirror Group of newspapers in Trinidad, came to Canada in 1989.

Along with journalist Raynier Maharaj, Mohammed founded The Caribbean Camera in Toronto in 1990.

Anthony Joseph, publisher-editor of The Caribbean Camera, in a statement, said that Mohammed was “a humble man who inspired me to get involved in the newspaper business.

” His assistance and  friendly advice helped me tremendously to get through some difficult times, ” Joseph added.

On his facebook site, Maharaj, the first editor of The Caribbean Camera, said that Mohammed played “an integral role in the development of the paper.”

” Kif was more than a business partner, however. He was a big brother, an always calm voice in the midst of every storm, someone to whom I could always turn for advice and support,” Maharaj said.

Mohammed leaves his wife,Yasmin, and daughters, Reyhanna, Faadia and Safiyyah.

A funeral service for Kifayat Mohammed was held at the Sayeda Khadija Centre in Mississauga where for several years he was a volunteer.

He was buried on Saturday at Meadowvale cemetery in Missisauga.
