Bob Marley Day was observed in Toronto yesterday with an hour-long ceremony at City Hall and the lighting up of the Jamaican colours of red, green and gold at the CN-Tower and Nathan Phillips Square.
The ceremony at City Hall started with Jamaica-born Deputy Mayor Michael Thompson reading out the city’s official proclamation. The city has commemorated Marley’s music and legacy each year since his death in 1981. The Jamaican-born singer-songwriter was responsible for numerous worldwide hits including “One Love,” and “Redemption Song.”
Bob Marley Day Committee Chair and CEO of Jamaica’s Timeless Herbal Care, Courtney Betty along with Lloyd Wilks. Consul General of Jamaica, oversaw the presentations of nine awards at the ceremony.
‘These Awards are presented annually,” said Betty “to those “who embody Marley in a humanitarian and activist manner. These are the real heroes”
