Usain Bolt has officially joined other sports personalities in the music industry, through the launch of his dancehall rhythm, Olympe Rose.

“The launch was a major success. We had a lot support from the music fraternity and great media support. Of course, give thanks to all who came to the launch. Just go out and get the music and I promise you won’t be disappointed,” the legendary sprinter told the Jamaica Observer.

Olympe Rose debuted last Thursday at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records in St Andrew. He is the latest Caribbean sportsman to try his hand at music.

Bolt said Olympe Rose is a joint project that came about in a timely manner.

“I sat with my cousin, the producer, and we spoke about what I had in mind for the rhythm. I needed a summer/lifestyle vibe that will make people feel good when they hear it. It took just under months to come together,” he said.

The 32-year-old Bolt is regarded as the greatest track athlete ever. He is the world record holder in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 x 100 metres relay. He retired in 2017 but flirted with football, joining the Australian club Central Coast Mariners in August 2018. In January, he threw in the towel.

Featured on the Olympe Rose rhythm are Munga Honorable, Chris Martin, Dexta Daps, Ding Dong, and former footballer Ricardo “Bibi” Gardner.

Bolt hinted at a long-term association with music.

“As my motto says, ‘I don’t think limits, anything is possible’. I don’t put limitations on myself for anything I’m doing. We are exploring doing another project at the end of the year, but let’s see how this project goes,” he said.

Two years ago, fellow sprinter Julian Forte tried his hands at music production. His efforts yielded the So Bad and New Era rhythms for Young Vibes Production. The latter boasted Do Yuh Ting by Tommy Lee Sparta and Swaggin by Wayne Marshall, Fambo and Tifa.

The So Bad rhythm featured Nuh Trust by Bugle, Even When Me Rich by Jahmiel, So Bad by Popcaan, and Yardie by Blak Diamon.

In 2016, Trinidadian cricketer Dwayne Bravo ruled the airwaves with his hit song Champion. His West Indies teammate, Jamaica’s Andre Russell, who operates under the moniker Dre Russ, had fair success with Sweetheart and Sweet Whine back in 2014. The latter is a collaboration with dancehall artiste Beenie Man.

In 2015, three-time champion jockey Dane Nelson released the track Jah Show Me A Sign, on his Warrior Chief Productions label. That single also featured deejays Nashinal and Boom Boom.
