Bench named in memory of Dr. Winston Isaac

Dr. Winston Isaac

On the grounds of Loafer’s Lake Recreation Centre in Brampton there’s a plaque affixed to a bench that reads:

Born and raised in St.Kitts, Dr. Isaac was the former Director of the Ryerson University School ( Toronto Metropolitan University) of Health Services Management in Canada. He retired in June 2015 after 25 years of service at Ryerson. He was born in Molineux and attended the Molineux-Estridge Primary School and later the St. Kitts-Nevis Grammar School.

During an illustrious academic career, Dr. Isaac served as Associate Professor and Director in the School of Health Services Management at Ryerson University in Toronto.

His academic positions included instructor at several colleges and universities; Program Director at the Michener Institute for Applied Health Sciences; Program Coordinator with the Chang School at Ryerson University and Director for the School of Health Services Management at Ryerson.

Isaac was a key part of the Respiratory Therapy program at The Michener Institute for almost 20 years – first as a student starting in 1971, then as a Clinical Coordinator in 1976, and later as the Program Director until 1989.

He was also a co-founder of The Walnut Foundation, a Men’s Health Interest and Prostate Cancer Support Group dedicated to development and education of Black men and the wider community in taking responsibility for their health.

Dr. Isaac died on February 15, 2019 at the Brampton Civic Hospital, after a brief illness. Until his time of passing, he was the Honorary Consul for St. Kitts and Nevis in Toronto.
