The Active Marketplace and Flea Market opened Black History Month celebrations last Saturday in Ajax.

The month-long celebration, organized by the Black Entrepreneurs Co-operative with support from all the vendors in the market, features the International African Inventors Museum on Saturday 12th; a program on the State of Black Mental Health in Canada on Sunday 13th; and the weekend of Saturday 19th, a presentation featuring authors called “Black Authors Speak!
Saturday 26th, the last weekend, will feature “The Black Vegan Food” presentation. On Sunday, the finale, there will be a Black Cultural Entertainment.
Among other invited guests were Ontario Liberal Party leader Steve Del Duca and Liberal MPP Mitzie Hunter, who represents the Scarborough-Guildwwod riding.
Del Duca delivered an upbeat message highlighting the great contributions of the Ontario Black community, while Hunter spoke about her Jamaican roots, her arrival in Canada as a young girl, and the family’s first home in Ajax not far from Active Marketplace.


Now that many of the COVID restrictions are being lifted, Active Marketplace’s Black History celebrations and installations may expect to attract a number of visitors from the Ajax community in the coming days.
