The curtains are set to come down on Sunday for this year’s edition of the Global T20 at CAA Centre in Brampton, Ontario.
On Tuesday, two matches were abandoned due to rain, but defending champions Montreal Tigers, Brampton Wolves, Toronto Nationals and Bangla Tigers Mississauga are the four of the six teams still in the race.
They will be contesting the Qualifier 1 and 2 and the Eliminator from Friday.
Montreal Tigers, who finished at the top with 11 points, will face off with second-place side Brampton Wolves in Qualifier 1 at 10am while at 4pm, Toronto Nationals coming up against Bangla Tigers Mississauga.
The action will continue on Saturday (12noon) when the second Qualifier takes place before the two top teams colliding for championship honours at 12 noon.
Meanwhile, in the rained-out games, Surrey Jaguars were tottering at 12-2 when the rain intervened and halted proceedings while there was no play between Brampton Wolves and Bangla Tigers Mississauga in the final preliminary round fixture.
The other participating team Vancouver Knight Riders managed only one victory from their seven games and finished at the bottom of the points’ table.
In the final last year, Montreal Tigers defeated Surrey Jaguars by an exciting 5-wicket margin with no ball to spare. Their victory was led by Guyanese and West Indies limited-over batsman Sherfane Rutherford with an unbeaten 38. This year, the left-handed Rutherford is struggling to find good form with his highest score being 28.
Again, the Tigers team is being captained by Australian flamboyant batsman Chris Lynn. So far, he has led them to four wins from their 7 outings.
