Reflecting on Canada’s Journey on July 1st

On July 1, we come together to embrace the rich tapestry that stretches across our vast nation, from coast to coast.
This day is an opportunity to gather with loved ones and reflect on Canada’s remarkable journey over the past 156 years. It is a time to acknowledge our achievements and confront our shortcomings.
Canada is a diverse mosaic of cultures and colors, resilient in the face of challenges that have tested the very fabric binding us as a nation. Despite the strains and tears, we have endured.
The principles of equality, diversity, and respect, which define our identity, have faced unprecedented trials during the global pandemic. The divisive “you versus me, us versus them” mentality that surfaced has, for the most part, subsided as we gradually restore the way of life we once took for granted.
Just like a well-tailored garment, our nation requires occasional adjustments and reinforcements. The recent focus on reconciliation, following the horrifying revelations from residential schools, serves as a reminder that on Canada Day, and every day, there is still much work to be done.
We must all learn to embrace and accept the differences that are beyond our control, fostering a path where we can walk hand in hand. Achieving equality and understanding among our Indigenous neighbors, people of all backgrounds, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, who recently celebrated Pride Day, will be a long and arduous journey.
This endeavor demands patience, perseverance, empathy, tolerance, acceptance, and grace in the face of adversity. However, guided by these values, we will reach a point where every Canadian can stand on equal ground.
The road ahead may be challenging, but it is the Canadian way to press on.
