Peter Goudas

On the 18th of October we were struck by the loss of an extraordinary and inspirational business man, pioneer, philanthropist, writer, pet lover and dear friend of mine, Mr. Peter Goudas. I recall recording a lengthy narrative on Koukla, his beloved pet. I have had the utmost pleasure of working with, and getting to know Mr. Goudas for over 40 years in my career as a Radio and Television broadcaster.

I’m still moved by the humility of this man in discovering the multitude of accomplishments he’s had under his belt. Some examples would be his innovative and proactive mind that lead him to own a construction company at the age of 16, to creating the trusted brand of Goudas Food products, enjoyed internationally by millions.

I first met Peter at his Kensington market store where he sold a variety of Caribbean dishes like oxtail, gongo peas and rice and much more. He was a small man in stature but had the energy, charisma and personality of a giant. I began to work closely with him doing voice advertisements for his businesses, and I also had the pleasure of co-producing a Caribana extravaganza with him. Over this time, we developed a friendship that grew into a brotherly bond.

Peter was a man who fully dedicated himself to his family, friends and community, he was well respected in the Greek community. He introduced me to a number of Greek restaurants on the Danforth, and we enjoyed Taste of the Danforth together. He held great compassion and care that extended beyond borders and into the households of millions. I remember the glow of excitement in my children’s eyes when mentioning a visit to his Food Production Facility. I was absolutely astonished by his offer for free food for life and his eagerness to give.

I’m truly saddened by the loss of my good friend Peter who migrated to Canada in the spring of 1967 after serving in the Greek military from age 21. I will miss him dearly. I feel privileged and honored to have shared that time together. The beautiful memories he has left will be indelibly etched in my mind and the minds of the many millions he has touched with his vast array of varieties of food. I was very pleased and proud to have seen them on the shelves of prominent grocery stores here in Canada.

My family and I sincerely offer our condolences to his wife Pat, sister Marina, brother Steve, son Panos, and the rest of his family. I have lost a great friend. His legacy will live on.

Rest in peace, my Brother.
