As our guest photographer Horace Thorne likes to say, “Cricket Lovely Cricket.” He was in the Andrew McCandless Park in Brampton earlier this week taking pictures of Cricket Lovely Cricket at a very special Anniversary Cricket Match between a team representing the island of Jamaica and a team representing Trinidad and Tobago

The match was in honour of a combined120 years of Caribbean history – both nations are marking their 60th anniversary of independence this summer.

Brampton mayor Patrick Brown and Tracey Mannette, the Council General of T&T of Ontario were on hand to start of the day-long match and picnic. The players, all from Ontario (but with Jamaican and T&T roots) fielded 11 players each and had a huge crowd of onlookers on the sidelines.

While the game was the reason for the fans coming out, they also enjoyed the food and drink. “Everyone had a great time dancing to DJ Bad Lad pumping up the Music. Most of the groups there had their own tents with Grace Foods providing a lot of giveaways,” explained Thorne.

“It was a hot day while the cricket match was underway, the sun was shining very bright,” he continued Thorne. “But late in the evening Mother Nature open a window and suddenly it was rain, rain, rain and more rain.”

The rain was so heavy the match had to be called. The two captains hope that they can have another friendly rematch, so do the soaking wet fans!
