
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a surprise visit to the Caribbean children’s carnival in Scarborough on Saturday.
As masqueraders got together in Malvern for the 45th anniversary of children’s participation in the Toronto Caribbean carnival, the unexpected visitor from Ottawa along with several of his MPs and Ontario MPPs were welcomed to the event.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by MPs Salma Zahid (Scarborough Centre), Gary Anandasangaree (Scarborough-Rouge Park), Ahmed Hussen (York South-Weston) and Greg Fergus (Hull-Aylmer) and Ontario MPPs Raymond Cho (Scarborough North), Charmaine Williams (Brampton Centre) and Mitzie Hunter ((Scarborough –Guildwood).
On Saturday July 30, the Grande Parade of the Toronto Caribbean Carnival will take place.
The Toronto Caribbean Carnival, formerly known as Caribana, was first held in 1967 as a gift from the Caribbean community to Canada on its centennial.
