Dominica-born Cardinal Kelvin Edward Felix, who served in Saint Lucia, is among 19 new cardinals in the elite new Roman Catholic group and will serve along with Deacon Eustace Beausoleil in presiding over mass at the church at 265 Alton Towers Circle, Scarborough at 1 p.m. Felix studied in Canada and his brother Al lives here.

‘We have extended an invitation to nationals from both Saint Lucia and Dominica to come to the church service dressed in your national wear, as we want to make the cardinal’s first mass in Canada a memorable one,” Frances DelSol, Trade and Investment Commissioner for Dominica (in Canada) told The Camera.

Felix was ordained in 1956 and is known to have a strong sense of social justice.

A letter from Pope Frances informing him of his appointment to the College of Cardinals said: “Dear Brother, The Cardinalate does not signify a promotion, an honour now, or a decoration: it is simply a service that demands a broader vision and a bigger heart.”
