If singing for the President of the United States is a sign that you’ve arrived, The Voice’s Tessanne Chin has definitely done so. She joined the likes of Aretha Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Melissa Etheridge, Ariana Grande, Janelle Monae, and Team Usher mentor Jill Scott to perform at the White House for the Women of Soul concert.

Looking absolutely gorgeous in a floor-length red gown with a high slit and adorned with beautiful (and surely expensive!) baubles, Tessanne understandably looked a bit nervous as she took the stage. She thanked the Obamas for the honor of performing in front of them, and then explained her family’s love of Donna Summer. In the late, great Donna’s honor, Tessanne performed a rendition of “Last Dance” that had attendees moving and swaying. She became the first contestant from the show to perform at The White House, and certainly set the bar high for anyone who may do so in the future.

According to the Washington Post, the first lady –– who is known for her love of singing and shaking her presidential booty –– attempted an inspirational quote about music that the media will surely have a field day with:
“Find your own voice and be proud of it,”Michelle said. “And then, sing your butt off. Or work your butt off. Or whatever you do, do it until your butt comes off.”

The event was scheduled as part of Women’s History Month, and is set to air on PBS on April 7.
