Retired Trinidad-born nurse dies in Toronto at 84

Retired Trinidad-born  nurse Marva Thornhill nee Johnson died in Toronto on Sunday after a long battle with hydrocephalus which confined her to a wheelchair for many years. She was 84.

Her husband, Fred, said she died peacefully at home.

” Marva grew up in San Fernando Trinidad where she attended Naparima Girl’s High School.  After training at a hospital in Hampstead Heath, England, she moved to Canada in 1964.,” he said.

“It was in Canda where we met and got married,”  he told The Caribbean Camera.

She worked at several hospitals in Toronto.

She leaves her husband, Fred, three brothers, Ebert, Selwyn and Clayton, three sisters,  Irma , Joyce and Roslyn, and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service for the late Marva Thornhill will be held on Monday April 5 at 1 p.m. at the Ward Funeral Home ( Weston Chapel) in Toronto with viewing from noon to 1p.m.
