ST. Lucians to pay less for electricity

This rarely happens, a reduction in the price of something. But it’s happening in St Lucia where citizens will pay less for electricity following a 2.6 cent reduction in the tariff for 2013.

The St Lucia Electricity Services Limited (LUCELEC) said the reduction in the tariff will reflect on bills for February until the end of year.
LUCELEC Manager Trevor Louisy said the basic tariff is what customers pay per unit of electricity without the fuel surcharge.

It is reviewed in January of every year in accordance with the Electricity Supply Act.
The manager of the country’s only electricity provider explained that the reduction in the basic tariff is a result of the average price of fuel for 2013 being lower than the previous average price LUCELEC paid in 2012.
