OTTAWA  – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has congratulated Prime Minister Timothy Harris of St. Kitts and Nevis on his recent re-election and said he was looking forward ” to continued work on shared priorities, including efforts to support greater resilience to climate change, investments in infrastructure, and economic growth and prosperity.”

Both prime ministers expressed their shared commitment  ” to strengthening regional and global partnerships and institutions to build a fairer, more inclusive world for all countries, and to address the unique challenges faced by small island states around the world,” according to a news release on June 12 last from the office of the Canadian Prime Minister.

The two leaders also spoke of the strong friendship between Canada and Saint Kitts and Nevis, ” built and maintained through investment, shared values, and enduring people-to-people ties.”

Noting that COVID-19 is a rapidly evolving global challenge, the release said that the government of Canada is working closely with local, provincial, territorial and international partners to minimize its health, economic and social impacts in  Canada and around the world.

Prime Minister Harris led his coalition Team Unity to a second consecutive victory in general elections in  St. Kitts – Newvis on June 6 last, winning seven seats.The Opposition parties won four seats.
