
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie launched the 2017 Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament on Tuesday,
At the official ceremony at the Mississauga civic centre, Mayor Crombie congratulated the young cricketers and community volunteers present at the event. She also congratulated the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA) for its work in making cricket more accessible for young people in Mississauga.
Tony Pontes Director of Education for Peel District School Board was presented with a commemorative cricket bat by CIMA Director Ranil Mendis for his leadership and support since the CIMA cricket program started in Peel Region in 2013.
Awards were presented to the following schools:
High Schools (Boys) Champions: Rick Hansen Secondary School
Runner-up: Meadowvale Secondary School
High Schools (Girls) Champions: Father Michael Goetz Secondary School
Runner-up: St. Joseph Secondary School
Middle Schools (Boys) Champions: Allan A. Martin Sr. Public school
Runner-up: David Leader Middle School
Middle Schools (Girls) Champions: Erin Centre Middle School
Runner-up: Allan A. Martin Sr. Public School
Spirit of Cricket Awards: Sawmill Valley Public School
