CHRISTMAS FUN: Soca Parang King Crazy has his fans lapping up his performance last Sunday at the Scarborough Convention Centre, where he made his first appearance in Toronto for the 2013 Christmas season. The “lovable lunatic”, as he is called, is credited for creating the Soca Parang genre — a mixture of calypso and parang, the latter being the traditional music heard at Christmas time in Trinidad and Tobago and the Eastern Caribbean. Thousands of people flocked to the venue to get into the Christmas spirit, and also to enjoy performances from other veteran parang singers such as Baron and Kenny J, as well as Toronto-based bands Los Amigos, Los Pajaros and Moka.
